Elwood Stanley Wilt


CLARKSBURG — Elwood Stanley Wilt, 78, of Buckhannon, WV passed away Friday, August 28 2009, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.


He was born on August 1, 1931, in Oakland, MD, the son of the late Harry and Stella Percy Wilt.


Elwood Wilt was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Wilt is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathryn L. Murray Wilt of Buckhannon.


Elwood is survived by one daughter Jeanie and John Bord of Grafton; two sons Stanley E. Wilt, of Buckhannon, and Michael A. Wilt of Buckhannon; also four grandchildren Nicole Heflin of Grafton, Aaron Wilt of Buckhannon, Stan Wilt II of Buckhannon, and Megan Beaver and husband Joseph of Buckhannon; two great-grandchildren Jonathan Matheny and Seth Beaver. He is also survived by one brother, John Wilt, of Ohio, and special friends Jerry and Rita Cochran and two God-children Darian and Jerry Cochran Jr. He is preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Wilt was a graduate of Victory High School and a Korean War Veteran. He traveled all across Europe in the 1950s and all over the Continental United States.


Elwood was a craftsman with his hands, especially enjoying woodworking. Mr. Wilt retired as President of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 347 in 1996. He started his career as a meat-cutter at the A&P store in Clarksburg, continuing with the UFCW servicing in Business Agent to Secretary of Treasure and then finally President. Mr. Wilt later served as a Zenith Trustee in Chicago.

He attended West Virginia University Institute for Labor Studies for several years.


Pallbearers for the service will be John Bord, David Matheny, Stan Wilt II, Joseph Beaver, Jerry Cochran Jr., Darian Cochran and Aaron Wilt.

Family and friends may call the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Olen Thomas Drive, Clarksburg, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.


Interment will follow at the Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be extended to People’s Hospice PO Box 1680 Clarksburg, WV.

Martha Jane Wilt
FAIRMONT — Martha Jane Wilt, 82, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Fairmont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on August 30, 1936, in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Elmer Bankhead and Evelyn Minervia (Husk) Bankhead Shaffer, and stepfather, Joseph L. Shaffer.
After graduating high school, Martha went on to work as a nanny and a loving homemaker.
She attended the Wilton Cake Decorating School in Chicago and was a beloved baker and cake decorator, sharing her talents with her family, friends, and neighbors.
She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and the Salvation Army in Fairmont.
She is survived by her sons: Steven Wilt, of Fairmont, and Brian Wilt and wife, Cathy, of New York; daughters: Ava D. Dean and husband Clyde, and Amber A. Wilt, all of Fairmont; as well as several loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Paul Cleveland Wilt.
She was also preceded in death by sons, Thomas Wayne Wilt and Joseph Michael Wilt; and an aunt, who helped raise her, Ruth “Freddie” “Boo” Dodd.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Patel, the staff at Fairmont Health and Rehabilitation, and WV Caring Hospice.
Family and friends are welcome to call at Victory Baptist Church, 1875 Morgantown Ave, Fairmont, WV, from 2-8 p.m. on Monday and from 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held at the church at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, with Pastor Nathan Barker officiating.
Interment will follow at Greenlawn Masonic Cemetery.
