Obituary:
Betty Rose Bice Burnett
SHINNSTON — Betty Rose Bice Burnett of Haywood Road passed away on August 18, 2018, surrounded by family at United Hospital Center.
Born July 15, 1922, in Enterprise, West Virginia, the daughter of Clyde and Daisy Griffin Bice. She was one of 10 children.
After graduating from Shinnston High School, she married her high school sweetheart, “Freddie,” August 2, 1941.
Betty was dedicated to raising her family and worked along side her husband in his Optometric practice in Shinnston for over 35 years. Her retirement years were filled with traveling, enjoying her children, cooking (especially apple pies), caring for others, and riding her John Deere.
Betty was baptized at the Enterprise Methodist Church and later attended First Baptist in Shinnston.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred Burnett, Jr.; three brothers, Lawrence, Everet and Raymond Bice; five sisters, Lenora Pyles, Thelma Enoch, Mary Ellen Harris, Dorothy Hartley, Jo Ann Toothman; and son-in-law, Frank Haynes.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Haynes of Wheeling, WV; one son, Sidney (Sheri) Burnett of Shinnston, WV; one sister, Jean Smith of Searcy, AK; five grandchildren, Jill (Fred) Gump, O’Fallon, MO, Heath (Eileen) Haynes, Lake Havasu City, AZ, Cristy (Rob) Buffington, Bridgeport, WV, Kelley (James) Coulter, Shinnston, WV, and Andrea (Johnathan) Powers, Lumberport, WV; six great-grandchildren, Heather and Ian Gump, Conner, Addyson and Sydnie Buffington, Scarlett Powers; and many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Friends and family will be received at Harmer Funeral Home, 300 Pike St., Shinnston, WV, on Tuesday August 21, 2018, from 4-8 p.m. and a funeral service on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Steve Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
