Robert 'Papa' Edwin Wolford


FAIRMONT — Robert “Papa” Edwin Wolford, 88, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He born on January 25, 1930, in Morgantown, the son of the late Roy Wolford and Mabel Wolford.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Linda L. (Wolford) Jarrett; infant sibling, Emma Jean; brother, Roy Lee Wolford; and brother-in-law, Donald Hall.



He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Robert served for 30 years as an honored and respected Deputy of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
Robert was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, and attended Fairmont State University; a proud member of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association and the Fraternal Order of Police; a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Masonic Lodge Acacia No. 157.
He is survived by his wife of 58 ears, Janice Wolford, of Fairmont; and four children and their partners, Wendell Wolford and Suzan Buckhannon, of Bridgeport, Dr. Doug Wolford and Mark Kretz of Michigan, David Wolford and Kristi of Fairmont, and Jennifer Keefover and Dave of Fairmont.
Robert, lovingly known as Papa, is also survived by grandchildren Abby Franks and husband Grady of North Carolina, Seth Jarrett and wife Megan of Fairmont, Alex and Haley Keefover of Fairmont, Paige Glenn of Fairmont, Zach and Tristan Wolford of Fairmont; and great-granddaughter, Kairi Jarrett of Fairmont.
He is also survived sister, Mary Frances Hall of Sistersville; brother-in-law, Gene McIntire and wife, Shelby of Worthington; and several loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home at 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, on Friday, June 8, 2018, from 2-8 p.m. and Saturday, June 9, 2018, from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will be at Carpenter and Ford on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Andrew Tennant officiating. Interment will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
