Mattox The funeral service for Alfred A. Mattox, Battle Ground, Wash., farmer, who died Sunday morning at his home, will be held from Hamilton's chapel in Vancouver at 2 P.M. tomorrow. Mr. Mattox had lived at Rt. 2, Battle Ground, since 1902, when he came to the west from Nebraska. Born in Terre Haute, Ind., March 25, 1856, he was married in Omaha, Neb., September 19, 1888. Mrs. Anna Mattox, the widow, survives, as do three sons, John E. of Estacada, Or.; William of Orchard, Wash., and Allie of Battle Ground; three daughters, Mrs. William Studer and Mrs. Leslie Spangler, both of Vancouver, and Mrs. Homer Ellertson of Brush Prairie, Wash.; and 16 grandchildren. Mr. Mattox was a farmer from his early youth, having engaged in this work in Indiana, Nebraska and Washington. He was a member of the Baptist church. Interment will be in the family plot at Wilson Bridge Cemetery.

Jakob "Jake" and Susanna Katherine "Kate" {Glaus} Studer and children lived in the Bernese Oberland; Niederried, (bei Interlaken), Canton of Bern, Switzerland. They left their homeland, traveling to Antwerp, Belgium where they boarded the S.S. Viking and arrived in the Port of New York in 1880.

Clark County Pioneers Dead.
VANCOUVER, Wash., Jan. 18. - (Special) - Reports of the sudden death of two Clark County pioneers reached this city today. Jacob Studer, aged 74, died at his home in Pleasant Valley and Almeron W. Ackley, aged 60, passed away at Camas. Ackley had finished a letter and reached for a stamp when he fell to the floor and expired. Studer came to this section of the country from Switzerland 26 years ago.
[Note: The Studer family actually moved from Watertown, Carver County, Minnesota 26 years prior. They immigrated from Switzerland in 1880, so had been in the U.S. for 30 years at the time of Jacob's death.]
