Verna Ellen Kincaid, 96 of Farmington, WV went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at her residence. She was born April 5, 1914 at Enterprise, WV a daughter of the late John Wesley and Ella J. Mahony Raber.
She is survived by her daughter, Ella Elizabeth Masters of Mannington, WV; 7 grandchildren, Gary Masters and wife Diane of Colfax, WV, Marla Beerbower and husband Harold of Mannington, WV, Dave Raber and wife Shirley of McNeal, AZ, Daniel Raber and wife Debbie of Billings, MT, John Raber and wife Reyna of McNeal, AZ, Alaine Taylor of McNeal, AZ, Donna Beasley of Huntington Beach, CA; several great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews, and cousins; very special neighbors who were like family, Sue Porter, Anna Waddell, Joseph Terwilliger and Samra and Jack Cunningham.
In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Raber who passed in 1934; her second husband, Lawrence “Red” Hayes who passed in 1988; her third husband, Robert Kincaid who passed in 2002; her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Pat Raber; two infant children who passed at birth; son-in-law, Darrell Masters; grandson, Vernon Masters; great-grandson John Raber; and her 12 brothers and sisters. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Verna worked at the Bowers Pottery and Westinghouse Electric Corporation. She later owned and operated a business of her own for many years in the Metz area. She enjoyed volunteering at Wishing Well Nursing Home and did so for several years. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, quilting and working with her flowers. She had made over 100 handmade quilts. Her last 2 being finished in 2002 which she kept for herself and she joked that “her family could argue over who gets them later”. She was one of the last WWI widows.
Verna was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Metz. She loved teaching Sunday school for the children, having done so since 1968 until her health prevented her.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Hospice Care of Marion County. A special thank you to the home-health aides, which included Anna Waddell, Diana Kristoff, Linda Garrison, and Stephanie Pletcher for the loving care given to Verna.
Family and Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, WV on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 2-9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2011 beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Stan Lambert officiating.
