Effie L. Moore O’Dell, 87, of Wyatt, went to be with the Lord on Saturday (Nov. 13, 2010)
at her residence surrounded by her family following an extended illness.
She was born April 7, 1923 in Clay County, a daughter of the late Fred Lee and Ollie
(Brown) Davis
Effie was the owner and operator of Moore’s Grocery/Wyatt Market from 1958 until
March 2008. She was a longtime member of Wyatt Union Fellowship Church, where she
was a former trustee. Through the years, she faithfully served the Lord through her
work in the church.
She was a member of the Ladies Aide Society and was a former committeewoman for the
Harrison County Republican Party in the 1970s and served on the board of the Bingamon
PSD from its inception in 1969.
She is survived by eight children and spouses, David L. and Linda Davis of Mullica
Hill, N.J., Linda Hickman of Wyatt, Minda and Bill Shingleton of Wyatt, Elizabeth
and Edward “Bud” Hildreth of Oakdale, Thomas F. and Nancy Moore of Wyatt, Martha and
William Salerno of Pine Bluff, Mary Jane and Matt Osbourn of Shinnston, and Bernard L.
and Barbara O’Dell Jr. of Cunningham Run; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren;
several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise and
Charles Orr of New Jersey; a brother, Gerald Lee and Frances Davis of New Jersey;
and several nieces and nephews.
Twice married, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl C. Moore, in 1955,
and her second husband, Bernard L. O’Dell Sr., in 1964. She also was preceded in death
by five sisters; two infant brothers; and two infant great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Hutson Funeral Home, 500 East Main St., Mannington, from 2 to 9 p.m.
Monday. Funeral services will be held in Wyatt Union Fellowship Church at 11 a.m.
Tuesday. Mrs. O’Dell will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in Wyatt IOOF Cemetery.
