SHINNSTON — Lois Anne Matheny Ruckman, 80, of Shinnston, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Heartland of Clarksburg following an extended illness.
She was born August 12, 1934, a daughter of the late Melvin and Mary Margaret Matheny.
Survivors include a brother, William Matheny of Shinnston; a sister, Alice Carolyn Demars of New
Hampshire; daughters, Susan Ruckman of Frederick, MD, Pamela Tyler of Frederick, MD, and Jennifer
Tyler of Thurmont, MD; grandchildren, Elizabeth Lawton of Frederick, MD, Robert Breach of Laurel, MD,
Michael Breach of New York City, Charles Tyler of Georgia, Gary Lee Tyler, Thurmont, MD, and Bryan
Tyler of Georgia; and two great-grandchildren.
She leaves local family: a niece, Vickie Grooms of Shinnston, and a nephew, Billy Matheny and his
wife Nancy. Local cousins include Ronnie Anderson and David Anderson.
A cousin, Richard Lee Anderson, lives in Martinsburg, WV.
Other survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins in other areas and many other family members in WV.
Local aunts are Virginia Minor and Anna Lee Matheny.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Jane Matheny, who
ied as a child.
Mrs. Ruckman was born in Shinnston and graduated from Shinnston High School in 1952. She left for
Washington, D.C., after graduation to work for the FBI as a secretary. She married Robert Ruckman in 1954.
In 1973, she started working for the Atomic Energy Commission, later becoming the Department of Energy.
She retired in 1990. Upon retirement, she moved back to Shinnston.
Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, 300 Pike St., Shinnston, on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at 11 a.m. with Pastor
Kevin Nuzum officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
