Doris Frances Roehling Weimer, 81, of Castle Rock, died Dec. 30 in Denver. A tribute to Mrs. Weimer's life was Thursday in Castle Rock.
Born Jan 11, 1920, in Elbert, she was the daughter of Amelia K. (Gabards) and Albert M. Roehling.
She spent her early years in Elbert, Washington and Edgewater. The family returned to Elbert in 1935.
She married Rupert S. Weimer in 1937.
The couple purchased the Red and White Grocery Store in Elbert and operated the store with Mrs. Weimer's father. In 1948 they moved to Parker, where they purchased a historic building on Mainstreet and opened Weimer's Grocery.
In the early 1960s, the business moved to the former Hall's Mercantile building.
Mrs. Weimer was active in all aspects of the family grocery business including bookkeeping, produce procurement, meat processing, display and customer service. She also helped renovate a former hotel across the street from the grocery. The resulting five-unit apartment building was managed and maintained under her supervision.
In 1966, the Weimers sold their business interests in Parker and retired to Castle Rock.
Mrs. Weimer was known as a woman of many talents, gifts and abilities. She was interested in a variety activities including horseback riding and fishing. She enjoyed cooking, baking, woodworking, leather craft, hand tailoring and "stitching" (needlework). She was an expert in the art of knitting, crocheting, quilting, embroidery and cross-stitching. She received several ribbons and awards for some of her projects in county fairs.
Mrs. Weimer was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1990, and her brother, Herbert A. Roehling.
She is survived by daughters Arlene Weimer and Claudia Weimer of Sedalia; sister-in-law Jean Roehling of Green Valley, Ariz.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Lad Curtis and Cathy Curtis, Kate, Troy and Justin Curtis of Littleton, Erin Curtis of Austin, Texas, Sean Curtis and Danielle Curtis of Castle Rock, Kim Curtis and Amanda Curtis of Sedalia, Pat McGowan of Cañon City, Scott McGowan and Denise McGowan, Katie McGowan and Amy McGowan of Brighton and Dan McGowan and Erica McGowan, and Kayla and Cassandra of Denver; and numerous friends and relatives.
Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Bear Canon (squiggle over the n) Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 458, Sedalia, CO 80135.
