At 21 he moved , accompanied by his grandmother who had reared him, his mother having died when he was an infant and settled in Wayne Co. His entire life has been spent in the vicinity of Seymour, IA. Married to Hannah Rockwell, Aug 30, 1899. Two children were born to them a daughter and son. During the Billy Sunday revival meeting in Seymour he accepted Christ as he Savior and united with the Methodist Church. Member of the local lodge of the Modern Woodmen of America for more than 25 years.
