Funeral service sere held in Portland yesterday for Mrs. J. W. Hugill, 76 Cowlitz county pioneer who died Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs Leona Newman at Hood River. Mrs Hugil was the last of the early pioneers of the Martin's Bluff district where she settled with her husband in 1875. In 1912 she moved to Portland and resided there until her death.
Survivors are two sons, Art of Centrailia and Ernest of Portland, and nine daughters, Mrs Alice Bunch of Portland, and nine daughters, Mrs. Laura Nawell of Tillamook, Mrs Pearl Swayze of Warrendal, Ore., Mrs. Newman of Hood River, Mrs Helen Schellhammer of San Francisco, Mrs. Mable Butts of Grand Coulee, Mrs Minnie Hanson of Longview, Mrs. Lettle Roe of Winlock and Mrs. Doar Jepson of Ridgefield. Forty-five grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren also survive.
Ruth Mabel and Walter Hanson and Mrs. Ernest Weber of Longview, Mrs. H. W. dolph of Kalso, Paul Hugill of Ryderwood and Raymond, Harry and Norma Jean Brewer of Kalama were among the grandchildren attending the funeral.
