GRANTSVILLE — The descendants of Nathaniel Rounds and Martha Olive Wilt recently held their 15th annual family reunion at the Savage River Pavilion in Big Run State Park near Grantsville.
More than 40 family members and friends were in attendance. Guests arrived from Maryland, Missouri and West Virginia.
Ken Buchen provided sound equipment and opened with a prayer. A covered dish luncheon and dessert table followed.
Special attendees were recognized and presented with a small gift. Marilyn Holliday was voted to have the favorite dessert, coconut cream pie; Becky Broadwater was voted to have the favorite main course, cabbage casserole; the anniversary closest to the date of the reunion was July 14, Ken Buchen and Loretta Hummel; the largest vegetable garden, Renee Mason; and the longest married were Dick and Dorothy Broadwater, almost 54 years.
Ken Buchen donated items for the raffle fundraiser. Maggie Allman and Lily Rounds sold raffle tickets and Breille Holliday, Lily Rounds and Lakin Rounds helped pull the winning tickets.
Raffle winners of the donations were Becky Broadwater, Breille Holliday, Loretta Hummel and Leland Rounds. Flower raffle winners were Becky Broadwater, Dorothy Broadwater, Breille Holliday, Loretta Hummel, Jean Mason, Bobby Rounds, Butch Rounds and Dale Rounds.
The fifty-fifty drawing was won by Loretta Hummel, who donated the prize money back to the reunion. Cindy Baker won the door prize, and Becky Broadwater won the Guess the Number of Candies jar.
Renee Warnick Mason presented a large genealogy display and collected family tree information. Genealogy books were available for viewing and a display of family men who have served in the military was posted. An exhibit of the Living New Deal and a local spotlight on The Way We Worked were also on display. Bonnie Baker shared some of her family photographs.
Rick Rounds and Chip Baker gave donations to help fund the reunion. Numerous volunteers helped in reunion preparations to set up and take down tables and displays. Volunteers included Chip Baker, Ken Buchen, Gary Holliday, Marilyn Holliday, Renee Mason, Dwayne Mock, David Mock, Logan Mock, Adam Rounds, Bobby Rounds, Dale and Maude Rounds, Devon Rounds, Lily Rounds, Rusty Rounds and Julie Warnick. Carol Allman prepared coffee.
This is the last reunion to be organized by Renee Mason, Julie Warnick and Loretta Hummel. If someone is interested in continuing the reunion, they are asked to contact Mason at rmasonapcinc@@hotmail.com or 301-676-3371.
