Norma Ernestine Vance, 84, of Tetrick Rd. Shinnston passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at the Heartland of Clarksburg.


She was born March 13, 1931 and was raised on the family farm on Bice’s Run in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Fred and Gladys Stiles Bice.


Norma is survived by her loving husband, Gene Vance whom she married December 31, 1952. Also surviving are her children, Kirk Vance and wife Charlene of Clarksburg; Rodney Vance and wife Heather of San Jose, CA; Kent Vance and wife Barbara of Shinnston; Valerie Vance of Meadowbrook; and Robbie Vance and wife Rhonda of Shinnston; her grandchildren, Timothy, Josh, Misty Dawn, Travis, Jenna, and Trevor Vance and two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Lydia Vance. She is also survived by her brother, Marion Bice and wife Charlotte of Mannington.


In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her grandson, Ian Vance and her sister, Eleanor Shanholtz and her husband Roy of Enterprise.


Norma was a graduate of Shinnston High School in 1949. She was employed at the Farmerette in Enterprise and Champion Stores. She also worked for the Harrison County YMCA as well as Casey’s Restaurant .


Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, 300 Pike St, Shinnston on Thursday from 2-8 PM and on Friday from 9- 11 AM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 17th at 11:00 AM with Pastor Robert Shingleton officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.

Virginia Juanita Hitt, 97, a long-time resident of Jane Lew, WV moved to her heavenly home on Thursday, June 6, 2019 in Serenity Hope Personal Care Home of Lost Creek following an extended illness. She was born in Churchville on January 14, 1922. On June 26, 1957, she married William D. Hitt, who preceded her in death on October 18, 1977.
Mrs. Hitt is survived by her three loving children: Charlene Vance and husband Kirk of Clarksburg, WV, William D. Hitt and wife Toni and Robert D. Hitt both of Lincolnton, NC, three special grandchildren: Nataleigh Plage and husband Michael, Nathaniel Hitt and wife Holly and Jenna Swisher and husband Brett. She is also survived by one sibling: Reverend William J. B. Gum of Camden and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, William, Virginia was preceded in death by her three brothers: Jim Gum, Dick Gum and John Gum, one sister: Bess Francis and one grandson: Ian Douglas Vance.
Virginia loved to sing and was an active member of the Free Spirit singing group. She was also known for yodeling abilities. She was a member of the Broad Run Baptist Church of Jane Lew, WV. When in good health, Virginia was also very active with the Lewis County Senior Center and the Jane Lew VFW Auxillary. Her family wishes to thank of Serenity Hope Personal Care Home for their care over the last two years.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor William Coffindaffer officiating.
