Sarah Elmira (Miller) Gibbs was born in West Virginia on Sept. 17,1839 and died at her home in Coos Co., Oregon on Sept. 27,1918, at 79 years and 10 days. She crossed the plains in 1851. On the way her party was robbed and her uncle killed, while her and her father were wounded. She lived in Washington Co., Oregon and was married to Thomas P. Gibbs in 1855. To this union was born 12 children: 8 boys and 4 girls. One son has not been seen or heard from for a long time. They moved to Coos Co. in 1866 and located near Bridge where they lived for 4 years, moved to Curry Co., in 1870, where they remained until the death of her husband, which occurred in 1890. They then moved again to Coos Co. where she lived with her children until the time of her death. Her remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in Curry Co. (Gibbs Cemetery).
